MATAMATA COUNTY VALUATIONS.

Assessment Count Sitting. A sitting of an Assessment Court to hear objections to the recent valuations of properties in the Matamata county and township was held at Matamata on Friday, before Mr R. W. Dyer S.M., J. McCaw (Assessor for the Government) and J. W. Simpson (Assessor for town board). The department was represented by Messrs McGowan (officer in charge, Auckland), W. Wallis (district valuer), A. Sweetman (assistant). The objection of Sydney Gunn to a capital value of £3,800, was dismissed by the court, the assessment being sustained. R. J. H. Latimer said “Although he really didn’t know,” he thought he would sell his property of 61 acres at Waharoa for £6OO ; but it would ba on the market at that price for the day only. It was explained that noxious weeds were prevalent on the property. The value was reduced by £125, making it £775. Questioned as to whether his wife’s property would sell at the valuation figure, Mr Grenville, Okauia, answered in the affirmative. The property, he said, was valued two years ago at £9, and was now valued at £l4. The valuation of £3,250, on the property of just 'over 230 acres, was sustained. Holmes and Bain, Hinuera, objected to the valuation of 164 acres at £2,550, and stated that £1,684 was nearer the mark. The department’s figures were sustained. A reduction of £IOO was made oil the valuation of 23 acres, valued at £4OO by the department, for the same owners. The appellants still thought their valuations too high after the decision had been given. In the Putaruru riding the valuations of the properties of W. and R. Harrington, J. R. Walsh, and R. J. Wilson, were sustained, The appeal of A. Vincent resulted in his capital value being reduced from £4OOO to £3,500. J. Scott, Maungatautiri, objected to the capital value of £8,650 on 744 acres. The valuation was sustained.
