TURANGA-O-MOANA.

Mrs A. C. Vosper has been visiting her mother Mrs Pendray at Mananui. Miss Annie Harding is spending a holiday in Auckland. Pvt. A. C. Arnold has returned to camp after having his final leave. On Tuesday, the 28th of May, a very successful Sunday School tea and concert, was held in the Turanga-o-moana hall, a great number of children and friends being present. At 5.30 the children sat down to a sumptions tea, which they enjoyed immensely, parents and willing helpers waiting on them. After tea the children and adults indulged in games. During the evening a concert was held in which some of the young people took part. Masters Rob. Gunn and Jack Vosper sang in a very pleasing manner, and received an encore, Miss Westwood playing the accompaniment for them. Miss Ruby Davison played a pianoforte solo in an efficient manner. Misses Jessie Kirkness, Nellie Vosper and Iris Gunn each contributed a recitation which gave great pleasure. Misses North gave two items on Mandoline and piano which was much applauded. Mr and Mrs T. J. Vosper sang a duet in excellent form. Songs were contributed by Miss Rowe, Miss Attwood and Mr Randall (encored), Miss Rowe also gave a recitation with great success. Great credit is due to Mrs A. C. Vosper, teacher of the Sunday school, for the able manner in which everything was arranged to make the evening a success for the little ones. At 10.30 all dispered for their homes, having spent a very pleasant and happy t.me.

On Wednesday May 29th a farewell social was given to Pvt. A. Arnold, who was home on final leave. There was a good attendance, a large number coming out from Matamata, which showed how popular the soldier was. The first portion of the evening was devoted to an entertainment, the contributors being:—Miss Roe, pianoforte solo, recitation iand song; Mr T. Cotter, song; Miss E. Maisey, songs (2); Miss M. Gumming, songs (2), Mr T. Heaps, step dance; Miss D. Heaps, recitation and. Maori Haka; Mr Kennedy, songs (2). At the conclusion of this portion of the programme Mr H. Harding conveyed to Pvt. A. Arnold the best wishes of the residents and said they all hoped that before very long they would meet together again to welcome him home. He then presented him with a wristlet watch as a small token of the esteem in which he was held. Pvt. Arnold suitably responded. The rest of the evening was devoted to dancing which, with the exception of a short break for supper was continued until the early hours of the morning. On Tuesday the 4th inst a Red Cross meeting was held in the Turanga-o-moana hall a good number of ladies attending. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs R. J. Maisey and Miss Maisey and was much appreciated,
