MORRINSVILLE. the Farmers’ Auctioneering company’s sale on Friday there was a large yarding of stock. Sheep anil fat cattle sold well up to recent prices, but there was no demand for stores, nearly all the lines penned being passed in. Calves were dull of sale. There was a good demand for dairy cows close to profit. Prices : Sheep, wethers 30s (id, fat ewes 28s 3d to 295, others 24s 2d to 2Gs 3d, good lambs 18s, good hoggets 21s Sd to 25s lOd, others 17s to 21s. ewes in lamb to 235, poorer sorts 18s to 18s 2d. MAT AM AT A. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Coy. held its monthly sale at M&tamata on Wednesday, 230 head of elttle and three pens of sheep being yarded and sold. There was a good attendance and bidding was brisk. Prices were: Sheep, fat and forward ewes 245, 2-tooth wethers 24s Cattle, fat cows £l2 10s to £l2 lbs, lighter sorts £lO 5s to £ll Is, small fat steers £lO 108 to £l3 15s, 2-year steers £7 10s to £8 12s, weaner steers £2 17s Gd to £3 16s, mixed sex weaners £1 14s to £2 10s, store cows £5 10s to £6. Dairy cattle, springing heifers (good) £l4 to £ls 10s, backward heifers £9 to £ll, springing cows on behalf of Mr J. D. Murray £l2 10s to £l6 ss, from other vendors £9 5s to £l3 ss. Poultry: Hen 2s, purebred White Wyandottes 11s to 15s. * MR J. H. WILSON’S HERD. On Saturda}’ the Farmers’ Auctioneering company conducted a clearing sale of Mr J. H. Wilson’sjckoicc herd of cows at Matamata. The cattle were in absolutely good condition and sold very well throughout, establishing a record for the district for a large mixed herd. The first cow to be offered, a good class Shorthorn, realised 28 gns, being purchased by Mr J. W. Anderson (Pairere), who also followed with others at 28 and 30 gns. The top price animal was a Jersey-Holstein cross purchased by Mr H. Bodley at 33 gns. Other principal buyers were Messrs Wilton and Partridge, W. Swap, Darragh, Eastwood, Green (Hikutaia) and Bond. The first 60 cows offered averaged just about 19 gus. Three pedigree Holstein cows brought 30, 31 and 32 gns, the purchasers being Mr H. Bodley and Mr CJreen (Hikutaia). Shorthorn bull, purchased by Mr 1L Clarke, brought gns. brought up to 15 gns. ->S. MR FINNERTY’S HERD. The Farmers’ Auctioneering company conducted a clearing sale of Mr J. W. Finnerty’s herd on Thursday last. Owing being what is termed “people’s day ” at the Winter show the attendance was not as large as was anticipated and prices suffered accordingly ; in fact, some bargains in dairymaids were secured. The herd of 37 cows averaged about 15 gns, the top price auiuial going to Mr Darragh at 20 gns. Among the biggest buyers were Messrs Darragh, Noakes, Johnston and a buyer from Etttoruru. A “ Red Cross ’’ calf donated by the vendors realised in the vicinity of £ls. MR W. CRABB’S HERD. A clearing sale of Mr W. Crabb’s herd at Peria was held by the Farmers’ Cooperative Auctioneering company on Tuesday. The weather was very bad, and at times very few buyers were left in the ring, and this somewhat affected prices. The herd of 75 cows averaged £ls per head, the highest figures being reached by a “ black and white ’’ purchased by Mr P. Quinlan, and a Jersey bought by Mr N. V. Prime (of Tauranga) both at 19 gns. The largest buyers were . Mr Frank Gibson and Mr Prime. Thirty heifors realised an average of £l2.
