MATAMATA TOWN BOARD.

Monthly Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Matamata Town board was held on Monday evening, Mr J. Price presiding. The other members present were Messrs E. C. Banks, J. F. Vosper, J. Pohlen and W. A. Gordon. OBJECTIONS TO VALUATION The Valuation department advised that objections to the town area re-valuation will be held in the Magistrate’s court, Matamata, on June 21st. Mr J. McCaw notified that owing to having been appointed to represent the Government he would be unable to appear for the board as asked. It was decided to ask Mr G. Howie (chairman, Morrinsville Town board) to accept the position. SANITATION. The chairman regretted that no tenders had been received for the sanitation scheme advertised. The position was now difficult. Members stated that there had been prospective tenderers, but perhaps they had overlooked the matter. Further action in the matter was left in the hands of the sanitary committee who are to inquire into the question of suitable sites. MINISTER FOR LANDS VISITThe chairman also reported having received the Minister for Lands, and having pointed out various sections which the board required to have vested in it. He thought that the overtures would be met in a favorable light. Other matters (as already reported) were brought before both the Minister for Lands and the Minister for Railways. It was decided to thank the chairman for his activities since last meeting. ARBOR DAY. Mr Pohlen, in discussing the matter of tree-planting in the township, suggested that the school children observe Arbor day by planting trees on the footpath outside the school. Members thought the idea a good one, and, on the motion of Mr Banks, the suggestion was adopted. ROADS. Attention was drawn to the fact that several streets contained bad places which might be improved. It was resolved that the chairman be empowered to appoint a man to attend to this work. AOCOUNTS. An account of £2O for printing by-laws was passed for payment.
