FOOTBALL.
Married 3, v. Single O. a The first match of the season was played on Saturday before a large attendance. Several of the selected married men failed to turn up but substitutes were found. The game generally, especially in the second and last spells, was in favor of the benedicts, who were a very heavy team compared to their opponents. The single men contained two or three individual players of promise, but there was a total lack of combination. Maybe with more practice the team will improve, but it is doubtful. Some weeding out will have to take place. On the day probably F. Holmes, Adlam and M. Scott were the best of the married men, and Partridge, Findley and Stewart the pick of the bachelors. The decisive try scored by M. Scott was hard earned, the benedicts having their opponents pinned down within five yards of their line for quite six minutes. Mr Hawke gave satisfaction as referee.
