OKAUIA.

FARMERS' UNION MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Farmers' union was held on Monday, when there were present Messrs Whyte, Jones, Austing, Sutherland, R. Garland, Grenville, Fogerty, 0. Garland, Bell and Curtis. Mr Curtis, a new member, was welcomed, and Mr Herbert was duly elected a member. Correspondence from the Fruit Growers' Co-operative Society requesting names of members for the purpose of co-operation in the disposal of fruit was read, and it was decided to supply the names. The chairman introduced correspondence, stating that it was proposed to nominate Mr McAlpine as Parliamentary candidate for the new Rotorua electoral district, and asking for the support of the branch. It was decided to agree to the selection of a candidate, and Mr Whyte was asked to represent the branch at the meeting to be held in Morrinsplle. A resolution was carried that the monthly meetings be held at 7.30 instead of at 8 p.m. during the winter. The chairman handed in a formal resignation of his position as president, and explained that owing to having sold his farm he was leaving Okauia. N He thanked the members for the support they had always accorded him, and said he had taken great pleasure in doing his best for the branch from its beginning, and still wished to see it make its influence felt for the good of the district. Mr Jones voiced the feelings of the members when he said that all regretted losing the chairman. He had occupied the chair with success, and had devoted considerable time and attention to the, affairs of the branch. A very hearty vote of thanks was unanimously accorded the retiring chairman. The vice-president, Mr Sutherland, now took the chair, and the meeting decided to leave the election of a new president till the next monthly meeting, as the number present was rather small. The secretary reported having opened an account in the Bank of New Zealand, and that he had paid the levy due to the provincial executive. •Mr Whyte gave the information he had acquired in connection with the price of benzine, and the secretary read several remits bearing on the subject which are to be presented at. the annual conference. A committee consisting of Messrs Austing, .Grenville, R. Garland, 0. Garland, Jones and Fogerty was appointed to arrange for the send-off of Private committee to retain office till the end cf the year.
