HINUERA.
On Friday the 19th April, a very successful concert and dance organised by Miss Ruby Ring, in aid of the soldiers’ gift fund was held in the Hinuera hall. Miss Ring left no stone unturned to make the occasion a success, which it undoubtedly was. The proceeds amounted to over £lB. A cake which wasauctionedagain and again, realised £5 16s. The hall was beautifully decorated with flowers and greenery and illuminated with Chinese lanterns. The stage represented a fairy dell. The first item, a tableau entitled Fairyland, in which six little girls took part, the little fairy queen in the centre and the other fairies grouped around attired in short muslin dresses cut to represent the petals of a flower, each wearing wings on the shoulders and a wreath of pink and green flowers on the head —with the exception of the Queen, who wore a crown and held a wand—made a very pretty picture. While the tableau was being enacted “ Pipes of Pans ” was beautifully sung by Miss Ring and was encored. In the next scene the fairies were grouped around the Queen, each holding a streamer of pink and green flowers, which was suspended from the ceiling, while they sang “The Fairies.” They then danced around the Queen to the tune of the above song. This item was beautifully rendered and
evoked great praise for Miss Ring, the promoter. Miss Nixon kindly officiated at the piano, and also gave several clever and amusing items, which were received with great enthusiasm. The contributing items were: Tableau “Fairyland,” song “Pipes of Pan ” Miss Ring, song and dance by the Fairies (Joyce Noakes, Kitty and Eileen Hope, Violet Brown and Ethee Chitty, Fairy Queen, Doris Hayes), song Mr Dent, song Mr Malcolm, song, at piano, Miss Nixon, violin solo Mr Randrupp, song Mrs Hayes, song, at piano, Miss Nixon, song Mr Pannett, song Miss Hartnett, song Mr Malcolm, song Mr Pannett, songs, at piano, Mi ss Nixon. Browne was chairman and Mr Hayes M.C.
