SPORTING.
A fortnight ago the “Record” recorded that the course at Hamilton was not to the liking of the local horse, Ring Lupin, and that the money punters parted with on that occasion was but lent for the time being. On Saturday at Te Aroha the chestnut gelding gave nothing else a chance over 5H furlongs and paid a good dividend —that is for him. Mr W. Livingstone’s Silver Lode galloped sufficiently well at Te Aroha, to warrant its owner expecting to win a race soon. It is probable that the horse will be seen competing at Feilding. Matamata sports were “ not on ” Ring Lupin on Saturday, rather preferring Hannon’s Waikato representative, Rekanui. The latter was not sighted, and the former won from barrier-rise. Does judgment count ? Several Te Aroha “flyers” which have been boomed £©r' w 7 eeks, were prevented—from starting on Saturday, owing to some trouble in respect to the trainer. A number of Te Aroha "horses were competing, but only one win was registered by them, Kereone winning the seven furlongs from end to end. The meeting was highly successful and when the “ tote ” bells stopped ringing it was recorded that the previous one day record had been beaten by nearly £5,000.
