OKAUIA.
FARMERS’ UNION. The Okauia branch of the Farmers’ union held its monthly meeting last week, when there were present Messrs Whyte, Baxendine, Jones, Barton, Hopkins, Donald, Sutherland, Grenville, Fogerty, McDonald, 0 Garland,' Mathers and Williamson. The chairman gave an account of what had been done at the Morrinsville meeting, and there was some discussion on general topics, but nothing of importance was brought forward. Mr Hopkins introduced the question of the guano deposits on Pleasant Island with the object of framing a remit to the annual conference desiring the Government to secure this valuable manure for New Zealand. As reliable particulars of the subject were riot forthcoming at the meeting the secretary was directed to write for information. SOCIAL. A social was held in the schoolroom to farewell Mr and Mrs Hall, who are leaving Okauia to reside in Matamata. Mr Richards made a very .efficient chairman, and much of the success of the function was due to his humorous speeches. A musical programme was rendered by the following:—Miss North, piano solo; Messrs Randall, Fogerty and R. Garland songs ; Mr Bunn, recitation; accompaniments, Miss North and Mrs Ausiting. The presentations were made by Mr Richards, Mr Hall receiving a handsome Bible and Mrs Hall a lady’-s bag. Speeches were also made by Messrs Vosper and Whyte. After supper the room was cleared for dancing and games, Mr F. Grenville being M.C. The music was supplied by Mrs Austing (piano) and Mr Graveson (violin).
