A very enjoyable plain and fancy dress dance was held in the school on Wednesday evening. Visitors from surrounding district were numerous . which speaks well for the popularity of the local dances. Soma eighteen couples trod the light fantastic toe until well into the morning. Quite a number were in fancy dress, which added a dash of color and gaiety t:> the evening. The ladies in fancy dress were : Mrs J. Priestly, Rainbow; Miss E. Brown, Pieiette ; Miss I. R9ad, Night; Miss H. 3ordon, Shamrock; Miss L. Buchanan, Japanese Lady ; Miss McNally, Rag Time. The gentlemen included Messrs J. Priestly, Hymn 82, Moody and Sankey; R. Pearce, Cow Boy ;(& Gordon, soldier ; W. Read, soldier; A. Read, Jockey; R. Fraser, Cadet; E. S. Barnett, Bing Boy; A. Wright, Clown, and C. L. Vickers, Dummy. Splendid music was supplied by Mr Brown and Mr E. Barnett whilst the supper was as usual in the capable bands of the ladies. The milk supply at the Sunny Park Cheese factory is double that of last year and prospects for next season a still greater increase. The local school committee have received word from the Board of Education : 'fh*at the Government has made a grant for the enlargement of the school. General satisfaction is felt in the proposed addition to the school. At present the school, which was built to accomodate 48 children, has to house 74. It is reported that the Board of Education intend shifting the Selwyn school to the Kaimai. It is a great pity the board does not look a little further ahead and allow the building to remain where it is as it is only a matter of months when the population of the Selwyn school district will warrant the reopening of the school.
