Presentation to Sergt. Cummings. The esteem in which SeniorSergt. Cummings was held in the district was demonstrated at Rotorua recently, when over fifty residents of the district assembled to bid him farewell. Speaking during the evening Mr R. W. Dyer, S.M., said he had already said good-bye officially to the officer, but it gave him great pleasure to be afforded the opportunity of again bearing witness to his worth. He had been associated with the sergeant for the last two and a-half years, and had always found him most worthy and able. During his long connection with the law — and he was not capable of exaggerating —he considered the sergeant the most fair and able prosecutor he had met. He greatly regretted his removal to Christen urch. Sergeant Cummings was the recipient of a silver salver as a parting present. The inscription was as follows :-—" Presented to Senior-Sergt. Cummings by the residents of the Rotorua district as a token of appreciation of his sterling worth." Senior-Sergt. Cummings was on a visit to his Putaruru farm during the week-end, leaving for Christchurch on Monday.
