Brief Mention of all Minor Happenings in Matamata and Vicinity.
Driving work is required by an experienced youth. A married couple require furnished rooms in Matamata. Mr W. and Miss Hetherington, of Tirau, Messrs A., E. and F. Bowler, of Matamata, left on Tuesday evening on an extended tour of both islands. Mr and Mrs H. Kelso, of Matamata, arrived home last week after a three weeks’ visit by car to Tauranga. Mr and Mrs J. H. Harding render thanks in this issue to the many residents who assisted in preventing the flames reaching their house on Sunday evening. Mr F. Shannon reports that the rainfall at Tirau for the month of January was 3.53 inches. The heaviest fall was on the 18th, when there was '96 inches of rain. Senior.-Sergt. Cummings, late officer-in-charge of the Rotorua to Matamata district, has received promotion to Christchurch. Sergt. Cummings left Rotorua last week. The rainfall at Matamata for January, as observed by Mr Wm. Kirkness, of Turanga-o-moana, was 4.45 inches on twelve days. The heaviest fall was 1.17 inches on January 15th.
