Brief Mention of all Minor Happenings in Matamata and Vicinity.
A returned soldier's badge is advertised for. The badge was lost at Te Poi just Xrnas. A young lady requires board and residence with private family. Mr William C. Hewitt, of Hawkes Bay, has purchased Mr J. Steen's property next to the Matamata post office, and intends erecting a suite of offices thereon. Mr Hewitt has also purchased property at Putaruru. Mr E. Strong was the agent in both cases. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile agency will conduct a clearing sale for Mr Dudley Crump, who has sold his farm at Walton, on Tuesday next. Among the lines to be. offered are 20 firstclass cows, 20 calves, farm horses, and farm implements. The cows are a real choice lot. At the farewell function to Mr and Mrs C. D. Dawson last week a special feature was the-stage furnishings and decorations, for which Mrs Turkington and Miss Storey deserve credit. Mrs E. Edwards and her three daughters also rendered excellent services to the committee in preparing the hali and in the matter of supper. " Matamata's great fault is its .lack of punctuality " said a town board commissioner at the " halfholiday" meeting last week. The speaker hit the nail fair on the head, for not one meeting in a hundred in the district commences strictly to time. Chairmen of meetings are to a great extent at fault, for they allow general discussions before opening meetings, and also often wait for people to arrive instead of commencing with a quorum.
