WALTON.

A most enjoyable dance was held in the hall on New Year’s eve Mr Geo. W. Ross acting as M.C., the music being supplied by Misses Ross and Mr Insull. On Wednesday, 2nd inst, a large contingent of Walton people attended a Welcome home social at Ngarua tendered to Pvte Les. Davis, who has just returned from the front having been invalided home. The event turned out to be the most successful that has been held there for some time. In proof of the success which may be attained in the district in the fattening of both cattle and sheep Mr W. W. Dickie one day recently disposed of a line of 105 head of fat cattle and 400 lambs the deal approximating £IBOO. Haymaking is now completed and the out harvest is nowin full swing, but the area so treated is considerably less than usual this year.
