German publishers of school books have been informed that they may use whatever supplies of paper they may have on hand for printing such volumes, but when these are exhausted no more paper can be used for this purpose. Towards the beginning of next (this) year 1 , says the Yossische Zeitung, no more school books will be available. Even at present it takes two months before classes can be fully supplied. A member of the staff of a London newspaper writes : I was sitting outside a ’bus going to Piccadilly Circus, and my neighbours were a very talkative and lively Frenchman and an Englishman of the grim type. They had got into conversation —or, rather, the Frenchman talked and the Englishman grunted now and then. When the ’bus was opposite the Nelson Column the Frenchman saw the workmen putting up the decorations to celebrate the victory of Trafalgar, and remarked, “ Zat is very beautiful” ; then pointing upwards to the figure of Nelson, asked, “ Who is he ? ” The Englishman’s reply was tact itself. He said: “Lord Fisher.”
