Tupuola Efi in Niue
The Prime Minister of Samoa, Tupuola Efi, was in Niue Island last month at the invitation of the Niue Government to hold discussions on civil aviation and getting closer ties between the two island groups. Last year Samoa sent big gifts of bananas and taro to help Niue through the long drought. During his stay on the Island. Tupuola Efi was treated to six days of lavish feasting, cocktail parties, and lunches. In all, six days of lavish expenditure of which the working class people of Niue footed the bill. A big occasion with a very important guest of. honour from a neighbouring Island true, but it seems that the Niuean Government could have used its resources more wisely and in these present days more economically. There are other more constructive ways of expressing gratitude and of obtaining closer ties between Pacific' Island countries. The Pacific Way will have to take a more realistic approach in the face of the economic crisis ahead.
