Mana Takes Time Out

Mana thanks the patience of its readers and supporters during our six week break in publishing. It was a necessary breathing

space and period in which to reorganise the advertising and distribution sections of the paper. Our distribution has been effectively doubled to 10,000-plus and the paper is being increased from eight to twelve pages. Mana is now, without doubt, the largest newspaper or magazine distributed among the Maori and Pacific Island communities here in New Zealand. With your help we hope to provide the widest and the best news coverage in this area so long neglected by the traditional media. We emphasise that it has to be with your help because Mana does not have, like other newspapers, a large team of full-time reporters to cover the thousands of events and stories that are of interest to our readers. We therefore encourage you, our readers, to send in stories, information or photos of local personalities, meetings of huis, sporting events, viewpoints on national news etc. We ask that the contributions be consie and relevant to the multi-cultural nature of Mana newspaper. We would like to have a solid backing so that we can increase our staff and be able to offer bigger and even better things in the future.

Most copies of Mana are now distributed through factories,

churches, shops, youth groups etc. A 12-page issue of Mana costs ussl ,400 to put out every fortnight. We need financial support to meet this budget and also if we are to expand. There are a number of ways you can help. Renew your 1978 subscription ($10.00) if you haven’t already done so; have a collection at work, church etc. to help sponsor copies of Mana to the hospitals, prisons and schools; be a regular at our fortnightly socials at the Waitemata Tavern on Wednesday nights, and encourage friends and relatives to do the same. Once again Mana would like to thank all its readers and supporters for sticking by us and at the same time welcome all new supporters to New Zealand’s only multi-cultural newspaper.
