Dining with Dennis
— Mana Restaurant Review

Dining with Dennis W. Hansen is an experience that is hard to forget. For those fortunate few who haven’t had the pleasure of Dennis’s company, he’s the type of northern Maori around whom anything can happen.
One telephone call to Dennis had your roving Mana reporter running around like an idiot trying to find forty dinner guests to eat at the restaurant that Dennis had just become a partner in. The restaurant, ‘Bobby McGees’ at 508 Great North Road ended up with sixty guests sitting down to a dinner of fresh sea food — we know it was fresh as one of the guests rang to ask what time the dinner was and ended up going fishing for his and our dinners. He had to pay
for the meal too. It is this type of occurence that makes dining with Dennis memorable.
Your roving Mana reporter ended up being a waitress along with four other friends(l) of Dennis’, who had been invited to dine with Dennis. An impromptu action song or two took place and we all ended up having a generally good time. We waitresses had the great pleasure of working with Dennis’ partners — two Chinese gentlemen who do the cooking, which by the way was rather good. Actually to be honest it was different, a kind of Chinese cum Maori flavour, if you know what I mean ... If you don’t know what I mean then go to Dennis’ Restaurant, 508 Great North Road, Grey Lynn.
