Roots, Rock and Boz Scaggs
And it’s not really that surprising ’cos Boz listens to a heavy diet of soul music, records by people like Al Green, the Stylistics, O’Jays, Meters, Wailers and Stevie Wonder. The Boz Scaggs touring party hits town (or rather Western Springs) on Tuesday, February 14. It is believed a basically all black backing band and vocal section may be with the Boz show (possibly the same as shown on a recent ‘Radio with Pictures’ film clip on television.) Boz’s two enormous disco smashes ‘Lowdown’ and ‘Lido Shuffle’ and ‘What can
I say’, will no doubt feature at his Western Springs concert as will other tracks from his ‘Silk Degrees’ album which has gone down in a big way down-under. It has just knocked the L.P., ‘The Best of Abba’ off the Australian ‘most sold L.P.s’ list and has achieved equal success in New Zealand. A new Scagg’s album called ‘Down Two Then Left’ should be hitting the record stands about now. The popular black group, War, was to have doublebilled with the Scagg’s retinue but promoter Russell Clark, says at this stage that doesn’t seem likely although a War concert later in the year may be on.
