Owners of Maori land in Paengaroa seem to have won their battle to hold on to their land which is presently being used by the Te Puke golf club. The club has made many attempts during the life of a 42 year lease to buy the land but the major shareholders are not prepared to sell. The latest offer from the club was to buy land for $ 190,000. The original rental was set at six shillings per acre. Mr P. Tapsell says he is against the sale of any Maori land because when Maori land has been left to us it is not ours to sell. It is our responsibility to hold it in trust for our children and grandchildren.
