A hui was held at the Tahekeroa Marae, Taheke, Hokianga, Northland over Labour weekend for the unveiling of the following tombstones: Waima Annie Reihana Ruka Katete Hari Tito Taheke Myrtle Brown (nee Cope) Annie Caroline Boyd (nee Cope) Te Rapiha Toia Tamahou Taupaki Katete Samuel Pene-Moses. Approximately 1,000 people attended the hui and people travelled from Wellington, Australia and Tahiti, Auckland and other cities in New Zealand. A Mr Rex Bott especially attended the hui. He is a well known Auckland businessman and a former owner of the Taheke Store. The Bott family are early pioneers of the Taheke area. The Tahekeroa Marae subcommittee has been working from the beginning of this year towards the hui and have held socials etc. Personal donations were made from every family who are descendants from Taheke, towards the hui. Grandchildren of the late Tamahou Taupaki Katete formed their own sub-committee and held socials with monies raised being donated to uplift the Marae in Taheke. The Auckland sub-committee is headed by Mr John Toia as chairman, Rodney Birch as treasurer, and Reitu Robson Q.S.M. (nee Cassidy) as secretary.
