A memorial stone was unveiled last week in memory of Mrs Taku Trotman at Mange re. Among those present was Mrs Shalima Vuibau, past Treasurer of the Maori Women’s Welfare League. Donna Marie and her parents, Ngaroma and Kees Van Gool of Whenuapai, will be going over to Australia next week. They plan to live there for sometime, and then to travel on to Europe and the Continent, visiting Mr Van Gools parents in Holland. Organisers of National Maori Language Week Auckland staged a demonstration outside T.V.2 Shortland Street, to coincide with Wellington organisers demonstration outside T.V.I Avalon. The protest was to emphasis Maori Language Week and that there weren’t enough programmes and employment for Maoris. The N.Z. Maori Council met in Wellington last week for a conference discussing things that affected Maoris. Mr Duncan Mclntyre, Minister of Maori Affairs attended.the opening on Friday night. Secondary Schools Speech competitions were held at Omaramutu marae, Opotiki. Winners for the Te Korimako Trophy were: Maori Speech: First: Riria Hetet — Tongariro High School, 2nd: Matenga Wehipeihana — Hato Paora College, 3rd: Trixie Brown — Waikohu College. English Speech: first: Vicky Te Rangi Ataahua Wehi — Waikohu College, 2nd: Wetini Maitai — Rotorua Bays High School, 3rd: Ruka Broughton — Te Aute College.
