Polynesian City. Where?
Sofi Pua Labour Party Candidate for the Auckland City Council.
I am standing for the Auckland City Council as a Labour candidate because I believe that Our Pacific Island people, many thousands of whom live in Auckland City are net represented on the Council. The Labour Party team is led by Jim Anderton, the Mayoral candidate who was, responsible with the other Labour Councillor Kathy Tizard for calling the Overstayers Public
Meeting in Auckland last year. Without him, you and I may still be walking Auckland streets in fear!!! Auckland needs Christian councillors! As a Christian, I ask for your support not only for myself, but for Jim Anderton and all 20 other Labour Candidates who have supported me and the Pacific Island policy. We need your vote to gain a majority on the Council so that we can put our policy into action. A ward system will give us local councillors! The Labour team supports a Ward System which will give us local Councillors. We need people who live in our street and our suburbs, who understand our problems and can represent us on the Council. At present nearly all the Councillors come from the suburbs around Remuera, we need people from: PONSONBY: GREY LYNN: AVONDALE and BLOCKHOUSE BAY on the Council. Housing for our people! The Labour Party policy is to provide loans for Housing and to help with a Rental Bureau for those who rent their homes. Labour candidates recognise that Pacific Island families need larger homes. The Labour Party will help you to extend your home. Housing is an urgent problem for many of us — VOTE LABOUR for IMPROVED HOUSING!!!
Public Transport — a cheap, reliable service! Often we cannot travel
even short distances across the city. A visit to Mangere can be like a bad dream! Labour will improve Bus Timetabling, establish new routes and have a flat fare of 30 cents for adults— 15 cents for children. Drivers’ Licence: Some of our people break the law because they are not confident about their use of English. I have asked that the Labour Party candidates press for testing to be available in Pacific Island languages. Largest Polynesian City in the World!?! Yes, but as I survey Queen Street and the City, I can find NO SIGN OF IT!!! I appeal to you to give Pacific Islanders’ a voice on Council to put Pacific Island policy into action by enrolling now at any Library, C.A.B. or Council Office and by voting for Jim Anderton and all Labour Candidates on October Bth.
