A group of friends and relatives gathered at the home of Syd & Hana Jackson last week to express good wishes to Syd for his endeavours in completing his M.A. thesis. The highlight of the night was a magnificent speech by Toby Curtis, who through genealogy linked the sub-tribes and tribes throughout Aotearoa to link with Syd and his family. Such was the honour and prestige he felt Syd deserved.

The first Northern Regional Arts Council Conference will be held in Tauranga Oct 15-16. The two themes at the conference will

be traditional Maori Art and Childrens art education. New paintings & Test Pieces by Ralph Hotere are showing at Barry Lett Gallery last week until the 16th Sept. Buck Nin, a teacher from Hamilton Mormon College, had an exhibition at the New Vision Gallery during the August holidays.
