Oil in Tonga

Oil rigs drilling around the clock will be the prospect for Tonga next year. Four years of seismic surveys have shown that oil prospects in Tonga are excellent. This is .according to information received this week from the oil-exploration consortium of Webb/Tonga Corporation. Negotiations are now underway for the purchase of a drilling rig for Tonga from either Australia

or Singapore. The cost of the drilling stage will probably reach $3 million. Drilling will initially go for about 20 days, around the clock, and is due to begin in January of next year. An important aspect to this historic event will be the utilization of local labour. Oil exploration has been a facet of Tonga for the last four years together with other prospects for other valuable minerals.
