Promotion for Maori doctor
Auckland District Maori Councillor has been appointed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Auckland University School of Medicine. Dr Mantell, who is 37, took up his new position this month. He will have special responsibility for undergraduate teaching.
He is chairman ofthe Maori Council’s Health Committee, and has been working to encourage more young Polynesians to study medicine. He is also a member of a committee studying ways of improving the educational opportunities for Polynesian students throughout the university.
