RATES OF POSTAGE ON LETTERS, BOOK-PACKETS, AND NEWSPAPERS, WITH THE REGULATIONS AFFECTING THE POSTAGE, TRANSMISSION, AND DELIVERY OF THE SAME. LETTERS. I—lnland Letters. From any part of New Zealand to any other put of New Zealand : Not exceeding | oz 2d. Exceeding | oz, and not exceeding 1 oz. 4d. „ l oz, „ 2 oz. Bd. And so on, increasing fourpence for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 2.—To the United Kingdom. By Southampton or by direct ship— Not exceeding | oz 6d. Exceeding § oz, and not exceeding 1 oz. Is. „ loz „ 2oz 2s. And so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. By Marseilles— - Not exceeding $ oz in weight 10d. Exceeding £ oz, and not exceeding 1 oz Is Bd. „ ' loz, „ 2oz3s4d\ „ 2oz, ~ 3ozssod. Every ounce after the first, Is Bd. Exceeding \ oz, and not exceeding loz 2s. And so on, increasing; two shillings for every addHahaT ounce or fraction of an ounce. B.—To NXYaI Officers on Foreign Stations. Letters addressed to officers serving on board any of her Majesty's ships on a foreign station, when sent througn the United Kingdom, are chargeable as follows : Not exceeding I oz . laExceeding \ oz, and not exceeding loz 2s. loz „ 2oz 4s. And 80 on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 9.—To Naval Seamen and Soldiers. Letters sent to or by Seamen and Soldiers in her Majesty's service will be transmitted within the colony, and between the colony and any postoffice in the United Kingdom, at a charge of ONE PENNY, provided that the following regulations are observed: — . 1. Each letter mnst not exceed half an ounce in weight. 2. It must be superscribed with the name of the writer, his description or class in the vessel or regiment, and signed by the officer at the time in command. 3. The postage must be prepaid. _ived in this colony, not in accordance with the foregoing regulations, will be treated as an ordinary letter. 10.—Free Letters. Letters on the public service of her Majesty's natal and military forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if bearing the words " On Her Majesty's Service," and the signature of the officer in command of the force on the service of which the letter is despatched. But such letters cannot be transmitted by any irregular route, or one entailing additional expense on the colonial Government. Letters on the public service of the General lervlce only, end the signature of some officer of the General (government authorised to frank letters. Unregistered Letters. Eeiristration Fee to places within the colony 6d. Sristration Fee to Australian colonies, and the United Kingdom Is. I* addition to the ordinary postage chargeable en any letter—except in special cases.
