ARROW RIVER—The following is a Lifet of Letters received at this Office during the Month of September, and Unclaimed on the lilst October, 1865: A Anderson, Peter I) Dobson, Mrs H F Fox, John Farris, Joha K Kerr, John M Mazza, Antonio Murphy, Thomai R Rohan, J R (2) W Whealan, Edward G. H. HARRIS, Postmaster. [circular.] Messrs. gillies & street beg to intimate to Capitalists, Shareholders in Companies and the Public generally, that, at the request of many constituents in the I ity and Mining Districts, they have determined to enter upon the business of MINING AGENTS AND STOCK & SHARE BROKERS In all its departments. In doing so they will adhere to the same rule they have uuiformy carried out in the other Branches of their business —that of acting simply and solely as Agents in making purchases and effecting sales. Ihe advantages to the public in this principle are especially apparent in Stock and Share Broking, as buyers and sellers must almost entirely be guided in their prices by the advice of their broker, which advice cannot be reliable where the party giving it is a Jobber as well as a Broker. Gillies & Street will transact business in the purchase and sale of mining shares and other securities, payments of call, receipt and transmission of dividends in Government stock and debentures, shares in Banking Insurance and other public companies, and in every description of shares in the market; also in loans and irlvestments on mortgage, as heretofore. They are making arrangements for having agents and correspondents in all the miuing districts, and, from their already extensive connection in the Province and Colony, they will be in a position to supply information as to the state and prospects of the mines and mining companies, and the value of shares generallj*, which will be thorougly reliable and at the same time free of charge. Gillies & Street will also transact all bisiness connected with the Registration and starting of new Companies; will place their shares on the market, promote their interests, and act as their Agents, Provided they are of a bona-fide character. GILLIES & STREET, Corner of Princes and Dowling Streets, DUNEDIN November 15th, 1865. 298
