RIVERTON GOLD FINDS.

(From the ' Southland Times' Correspondent.) Riverton, 3rd Oct. The success I have to tell you of this week is, I am happy to say, still very fair, nearly 12 ounces of the precious metal having been brought down last Saturday by the three parties who had set steadily to work, in all numbering eleven men. Amongst the gold there were several pieces averaging from 1 dwt to 2f dwts each. The nature of the country is such that it would require two or three hundred men to prove the richness of this field. One very good feature is that wherever a person tries a dish of dirt he is almost sure to find the color of gold; and the men are beginning to find out now that in order to get good wages they must wash all before them, for the gold is very patchy and lies in pockets. Business is very quiet at present, but far more steady than formerly. Altogether we are very sanguine of better times to come, and hope before another year is gone we will have a rich goldfield to afford prosperity to all the Province. ♦ The following extract from the ' Argus' gives some idea of the cattle they raise in Australia:— « (j ne of the largest bullocks seen in Melbourne for some time was landed a few days since from the Urara. Along with 133 others he was brought from the Clarence River, and although stiff, after a rough passage of ten days, is a noble beast, and in fair condition. He is one of the great Sydney bullocks, such as used to be seen more frequently twenty or thiity years ago, is between seventeen and eighteen hands high, and of the lire weight of 27 hundredweight.
