RATES OF POSTAGE ON LETTERS, BOOK-PACKETS, AND NEWSPAPERS, WITH THE REGULATIONS AFFECTING THE POSTAGE, TRANSMISSION, AND DELIVERY OF TILE SAME. LETTERS. I.—lnland Letters. From any part of New Zealand to any other part of New Zealand:— Not exceeding | oz 2d. Exceeding | oz, and not exceeding 1 oz. 4d. „ 1 oz, „ 2 oz. Bd. And so on, increasing fourpence for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 2.—To the United Kingdom. By Southampton or by direct shipNot exceeding * oz 6d. Exceeding ) oz, and not exceeding 1 oz. Is. „ loz „ 2oz 2s. And so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. By Marseilles— Not exceeding J oz in weight lOd. Exceeding £ oz, and not excetding 1 oz Is Bd. „ 1 oz, „ 2 oz 3s 4d. „ 2 oz, ~ 3oz os Od. Every ounce after the first, Is Sd. 3.—To British Colonies and Foreign Countries (For which mails are made up direct.) Not exceeding J oz -6d. Exceeding h oz, and not exceeding loz Is. „ 1 „ 2cz 2s And so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. in the following casps, where special rates are payable. 4.—To France and Algeria and Foreign Countries, through France. For these Rates see Table (C.) fl.—To the Continent of Europe via Trieste. Not exceeding £ oz Is* Exceeding J oz, and not exceeding loz 2s. loz, „ 2oz 4s. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of announce. 6.—To Stria and Turkey. Letters will be forwarded via Alexandria and Jaffa (unless marked for transmission via the United Kingdom), and will be charged as follows Not exceeding £ oz Is. Exceeding and not exceeding 1 oz.. 2s. Newspapers, each Id. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce.
Letters for Turkey and Syria may be forwarded in the mail to AUxandria, and thence to Jaffa, upon the payment of the following rates:— Not exceeding |oz 03 lid „ loz Is 10d For every additional ounce or fraction of an oz Is lOd Newspapers, not exceeding 2 ozs. Os Id Jf „ 4 ozs. Os 2d Letters for the lonian Islands may be forwarded in the mail for Alexandria, thence via Trieste, upon the payment of the following rates:— Not exceeding foz Os 6d „ loz Is Od Every additional ounce or fraction of an oz Is Od Newspapers, each Os Id 7.—To China and the Eastern Archipelago. Letters addressed to Hongkong, Penang, Singapore, and any part of China or Japan, the Phillippine Islands, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Labuan, the Moluccas, and Siam, are chargeable M follows: — Not exceeding J oz Is. Exceeding | oz, and not exceeding loz 2s. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. B.—To Natal Officers on Foreign Stations. Letters addressed to officers serving on board tny of her Majesty's ships on a foreign station, when lent through the United Kingdom, are chargeable as follows Not exceeding j oz Is. Exceeding h oz," and not exceeding loz 2s. „ foz „ 2oz 4s. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 9.—To Natal Seamen and Soldiers. Letters sent to or by Seamen and Soldiers in her Majesty's service will be transmitted within the colony, and between the colony and any postoffice in the United kingdom, at a charge of ONE penny, provided that the following regulations are observed: — 1. Each letter must not exceed half an ounce in weight. 2. It must be superscribed with the name of the writer, his description or class in the vessel or regiment, and signed by the officer at the time in command. 3. The postage must be prepaid. Every letter of this description posted or received in this colony, not in accordance with the foregoing regulations, will be treated as an ordinary letter. 10.—Free Letters. Letters on the public service of her Majesty's naval and military forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if bearing the words " On Her Majesty's Service," and the signature of the officer in command of the force on the service of which the letter is despatched. But such letters cannot be transmitted by any irregular route, or one entailing additional expense on the colonial Government. Letters on the public service of the General Government of the colony are transmitted free by poet, if bearing the words "On the public service only," and the signature of some officer of the General Government authorised to frank letters. 11.— Registered Letters. Registration Fee to places within the colony 6d. Registration Fee to Australian colonies, India, and the United Kingdom Is. In addition to the ordinary postage chargeable on any letter—except in special cases.
