Electors,— "YIELDING to numerous solicitations, I am -*■ now before you as a Candidate. This step, contrary to my repeated refusals, is forced upon me by your wishes, and because I, perhaps, feel with you that no candidate with thoroughly enlarged views has yet publicly presented himself for your suffrages. I did not seek the honor—l can gain nothing by it; but as a general election is likely to ensue upon the termination of the present Session, my reluctance has been overcome. If the experiences of a residence on, or a connection with, the Goldfields since the year 1851 are of any value they are at your service. Few movements of any importance have transpired upon them in which I have not taken an active part. That part lam glad to look back upon, and conscientiously feel that it has been one of earnest consistency. You have therefore, I trust, one valuable guarantee that your interests and mine are identical and in harmony. While possessing a deep practical knowledge of the requirements of the Goldfields, I trust also you will find that I possess sufficient capabilities to represent those wants judiciously. lam sorry to see that prejudices about local men are likely to become prevalent during this election. They can only serve to embitter one portion of the Goldfields against another, and advance no interest. Their effect is only to render your influence weak in the House of Representatives, where local jealousies are lost in the more comprehensive views that there command attention. Elect the best man, 1 would therefore say, without reference to locality, and you will conserve your interests. As 1o my views on all the leading topics that are likely to be discussed, I trust to make them known to every elector on the Goldfields before the day of election, and by them I alone desire to stand or fall. Yours faithfully, H. MANDERS. Queenstown, Bth May, 1865. 96 pACK-HORSES ON HIRE, AND PACKING DONE AT LOWEST RATES, JOHN M'DOUGALL, Baker, Ballarat-street, Queenstown.
