RATES OF POSTAGE ON LETTERS, BOOK-PACKETS, AND NEWSPAPERS, WITH THE REGULATIONS AFFECTING THE POSTAGE, TRANSMISSION, AND DELIVERY OF THE SAME. LETTERS. I.—lnland Letters. From any part of New Zealand to any other part of New Zealand Not exceeding £ oz 2d. Exceeding \ oz, and not exceeding 1 oz. 4d. „ 1 oz, „ 2 oz. Bd. And so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 2.—To the United Kingdom. By Southampton or by direct ship— Not exceeding ± oz 6d. Exceeding 7 oz, and not exceeding 1 oz. Is. „ loz „ 2oz 2s. And so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. By Marseilles— Not exceeding It oz in weight lOd. Exceeding \ oz, and not exceeding 1 oz Is Bd. „ 1 oz, „ 2 oz 3s 4d. „ 2 oz, „ 3oz 6s Bd. Every ounce after the first, Is Bd. 3.—To British Colonies and Foreign Countries (For which mails are made up direct.) Not exceeding £ oz 6d. Exceeding * oz. and not exceeding loz Is. „ 1 . . 2oz 2s. And so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. in the following cases, where special rates are payable. 4.—To France and Algeria and Foreign Countries, through France. For these Rates see Table (C.) 6.—To the Continent of Europe via Trieste. Not exceeding oz Is. Exceeding h oz, and not exceeding loz 2s. „ l" oz, „ 2oz 4s. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 6.—To Stria and Turkey. Letters will be forwarded via Alexandria and Jaffa (unless marked for transmission via the United Kingdom), and will be charged as follows Not exceeding | oz lid. Exceeding J and not exceeding 1 oz Is lOd. And so on, increasing one shilling and tenpcnce for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 7._ To China and the Eastern Archipelago. Letters addressed to Hongkong, Penang, Singapore, and any part of China or Japan, the Philippine Islands, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Labuan, the Moluccas, and Siam, are chargeable as follows: Not exceeding \ oz Is. Exceeding \ oz, and not exceeding loz 2s. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. To Naval Officers on Foreign Stations. Letters addressed to officers serving on board any of her Majesty's ships on a foreign station, when fent through the United Kingdom, are chargeable as follows Not exceeding \ oz 19. Exceeding h oz,* and not exceeding 1 oz 2s. „ foz 2oz 4s. And so on, increasing two shillings far every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 9.__ To Naval Seamen and Soldiers. Letters svnt to or by Seamen and Soldiers in her Majesty's service will be transmitted within the colony, and between the colony and any postoffice in the British dominions, at a charge of one penny, provided that the following regulations are observed: — 1. Each letter must not exceed half an ounce in weight. 2. It must be superscribed with the name of the writer, his description or class in the vessel or regiment, and signed by the officer at the time in command. 3. The postage must be prepaid. Every letter of this description posted or received in this colony, not in accordance with the foregoing regulations, will be treated as an ordinary letter. The postage upon these letters must in all cases be paid in advance. 10.—Free Letters. Letters on the public service of her Majesty's naval and military forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if bearing the words " On Her Majesty's Service," and the signature of the officer in command of the force on the service of which the letter is despatched. But such letters cannot be transmitted by any irregular route, or one entailing additional expense on the colonial Government. Letters on the public service of the General Government of the colony are transmitted free by p«st, if bearing the words 4< On the public service only," and the signature of some officer of the General Government authorised to frank letters. 11.— Registered Letters. Registration Fee 6d. In addition to the ordinary postage chargeable on an/ letter—except in special cases.
