A meeting of the Wakatip Jockey Club was held on Saturday evening at Bracken's Hotel, G. W. Rees, Esq., President, in the Chair. The business of the meeting—an adjourned one was for the purpose of drawing up the Programme which appears in our present issue. The demand for iron wire of a stout description is increasing. One of our leading merchants has sold out his consignment of heavy-weight wire and is expecting another lot, which is much wanted. These facts are sufficient to show the energy pursued by the miners in prosecuting extensive sluicing operations. The wire is used chiefly for the purpose of spanning the Shotover for fluming.

It is notified in the 'Gazette' that a mining lease of 6a, 3r. 18p. being a portion of the bed of the Shotover, between Long Gully and Moke Creek, has been granted to Charles Haines and party. By an Order in Council the following regulation has been added to the Mining Lease Regulations:—"The Government reserves to itself the right of ingress and egress to, from and across any land for which a Gold Mining Lease may or shall be issued under these Regulations, and of granting to any person or to the public such rights of ingress and egress, and of granting to any holder of a miner's right the privilege of entering on such land for the purpose of cutting water-races or tail-races and of leading headwater or tail-water through the same."

We understand that the Queen's Arms Hotel has changed hands at a satisfactory figure, and that we shall lose before long the presence of our old friend the "Major."
