The town since the infliction of the warning penalty of Is., on a portion of the hotelkeepers here, presents quite a brilliant appearance at night, through about thirty lamps being lit up. It is "an ill wind that blows no one any good," and those who travel after nightfall find the change a beneficial improvement. We have not heard whether an increased firmness has been exhibited by the holders of kerosene. An alarm of fire was raised last night about eight o'clock, but as it was only a chimney, and the Brigade was immediately on the ground, but little damage was done.
