QUEENSTOWN IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.

The meeting was held at Bracken's Hotel, on Monday evening, 2nd May. Present— Messrs. Angus, (chairman) Harris, Bracken, Weaver, Carey, Bradshavv, Cochrane, H, Mauders, hon. sec. Moved by Mr Bradshaw, and seconded by Mr Carey—" That a respectful memorial be forwarded to his Honor the Superintendent and his Executive, praying they Trill take such steps as they think advisable, so that Queenstown be proclaimed an assize town where Courts of Sessions and appeal shall be held." Carried. Moved by Mr Carey, and seconded by Mr Bracken—'• That the hon sec. be instructed to procure the necessary information to show the Provincial (Government the necessity and justice of our claims, as parsed in the preceding resolution ; and he is hereby empowered to incur any reasonable expense in procuring such information." Carried. Moved by Mr Bradshaw, and seconded by Mr Cochrane—"That Mr Bracken be empowered to represent the inhabitants of the Wakatip district as a delegate in Dunedin, in the matter of the estab ishment of a gaol and a Supreme Court at Queenstown; and that he is authorised to take such steps as he may deem necessary to secure this object." Carried. Moved by Mr Bradshaw, and seconded by Mr Angus,—" That a respectful petition and a memorial be sent to the Hon. the Attorney General to be laid before the Executive Government at Auckland, praying that the intention of the House of Representatives during its late session with respect to the appointment and residence of a judge of the Supreme Court for the goldfields, be carried into effect in accordance With the resolution of the House of Assembly." Carried. Messrs Harris and Bradshaw were appointed a deputation to wait upon Mr Beetham, R M. to obtain the statistics of the Resident Magistrate's Court. Messrs Angus and Cochrane were appointed to collect money for the Improvement Committee.
