QUEENSTOWN FIRE BRIGADE.

A meeting took place on Monday evening at Bracken's Hotel. Captain Bell in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Hon. Secretary then read the following letter, respecting a subsidy in aid of the brigade: — Provincial Secretary's Office, Dunedin, 20th March, 1864. Sir, —Referring to your letter of the 10th instant, addressed to his Honor the Superintendent, stating that a resolution was passed at a 1 meeting of the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Brigade, to the effect that the Government should he requested to aid them by granting a subsidy for the purchase of an engine, and other requirements, 1 have to inform you that the Government have agreed to place the sum of £IOO on the Estimates for the purchase of the fire engine, for the use of that body. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your obedient servant, Thomas Dick, Provincial Secretary. Mr Henry Chamberlain, Sec. to Q. V. F. 8., Queenstown. Proposed by Mr. Bracken, seconded by Mr Horn, and carried —"That the Secretary write ' a letter of thanks to his Honor the Superin-1 tendent." j Proposed by Mr. Horn, seconded by Mr. R.; Louttit and carried—" That J. T. Croft be i foreman of the hook and ladder detachment" j Proposed by Mr. Bracken, seconded by Mr Webster, and carried—"That the Secretary write to the various members for the gold fields, to notice the passing of estimates in J behalf of the subsidy for the brigade." The Secretary was instructed to write to the principal firms in Melbourne respecting a good fire-engine—its price, action, power, kc. \ An account of £l, to Pearson and Sigalski, > for calling meetings, was ordered to be paid, j Mr. Croft gave notice that he would move, at the next meeting —"That the night of practice be altered to Tuesday nights, in lieu of Monday, it being a day on which many business people are compelled to be absent." A notice of motion, to the effect that Mr. Silberberg be admitted as member of the brigade, was given by the Secretary. i The roll was then called and the badges distributed, after which the meeting separated.
