CHURCH OF ENGLAND COMMITTEE MEETING.

A meeting of the above was held on Thursday last, 3rd inst. Present—The Rev. Cooper Searle, Messrs Beetham (in the chair), Rees, Horton, Brown, Welsh, Bletcher, Gash, Worthington, Manders, Bracken, Turner, Jackson, and Campbell. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Rev. Cooper Searle then addressed the meeting, explaining the bishop's views with reference to obtaining the service of a resident clergyman for the district. Proposed by Mr Manders, seconded by Mr Rees—" That in the opinion of this Committee an annual stipend of £4OO a-year could be raised for the support of a resident clergyman for this district." Carried. Proposed by Mr Worthington, seconded by Mr Bletcher—" That an advertisement be inserted in the Wakatip Mail calling a public meeting of the members of the Church of England for Thursday evening next, at 7 o'clock, to consider what arrangements can be made for the support of a clergyman for the district; and also to elect a member for the Rural Deanery Board." Carried. Mr Gash then presented a Bible for the use of the Church, which was accepted with thanks. The meeting then adjourned to Thursday, the 10th instant, to take place after the public meeting.
