From Arthur's Point, we learn that nothing of consequence has transpired during the past week in mining affairs. The race is all but ! finished, and we may expect to see the river out l of its original bed in four or five days. The i new water-wheel erected by Bond and Co., for I Arthur and party, has been in operation, and is 'justly regarded as the most complete piece of work of the kind on the river, and will save much manual labor by draining the deep ground in the upper portion of Cartwright's beach. While the community are squabbling as to the means of effectively prospecting the Gorge, and wasting valuable time, we are glad to see ; that individual enterprise is in no way influenced, the party now at work there having constructed an excellent tail-race, and nearly finished a waterwheel. It is very probable that they will, unaided, have solved tlie problem before their backers (?) have quite done their private scrimmage. It will not be the first time that Queenstown has lost a good opportunity of assisting to develope the resources of the Lake district by this wretched system of faction-fighting, which ;is now becoming a perfect nuisance. The minsrs | engaged in the work are deserving of the thanks ' and support of the community. We have considerable pleasure in observing that an effort is being made to establish an amateur musical society in Queenstown. Young as we are, it is a want that has long been felt, and we now take this opportunity of urging upsn the inhabitants generally, especially those of a non-musical capability—to aid wilh their countenance and subscription, the formation of a society, where kindred spirits may, at least once a week pass an evening in the intellectual and refining enjoyment of harmony. We are requested to draw attention to the sale, by Mr R. Harris, of Mr N. Marks' stock-in-trade, consisting, as will be seen by the announcement in another column, of a varied assortment of drapery, cutlery, ironmongery, &c, &c. The sale takes place at one o'clock this day, on the premises, Beach-street.
