GOVERNMENT SALE OF QUEENSTOWN ALLOTMENTS.
To the Editor of the Lake Wakatip Mail. Sir, —Knowing the importance attached to the purchase of the freehold of their business allot- ! ments by the residents in Queenstown, I beg to draw their attention to the following clause in an ordinance, passed in the year 1857, wherein it is enacted as follows: — 1 "In all cases wherein parties shall apply by petition to the Waste Lands Board, setting forth the circumstances of their case, it shall be lawful for the Waste Land Board, with approval of the Superintendent and Executive Council first obtained, to sell Town land, without exposing same to auction at such price as shall be fixed by the I Waste Land Board and approved of as aforesaid, 1 such price not being less than the upset price, if such land had been exposed to sale by auction." It is therefore, by the above clause provided that the Waste Lands Board can sell town allotments without putting them up to auction, upon persons occupying same, petitioning, shewing that the land was rural, and has been laid out as a town, and that they have houses and improvements erected on such land. It is also the custom for the Board to fix the price for such land by the amount realised by the adjoining unoccupied allotments, submitted to public auction. As the land in the township of Queenstown is , to be t old next month, no time should be lost in preparing the Petition, and upon the necessary ! signatures being obtained sending same to the j Waste Land Board ! I also advise that all holders of business sites | in Queenstown (if they have not yet done so) to i have their allotments allocated to them by Mr I Beetham, the Warden. | I am, &c., yours faithfully, Thomas L. Shepherd. | Queenstown, 19th Nov. 1863.
