To the Editor of the Lake Wakatip Mail. Sir—Some little time ago the police caused a certain female in Beach-street to be fined for keeping a few bottles of spirits under her bed, because they alleged (and no doubt justly) that the liquor was kept on the premises for unlawful purposes. Why is now another female permitted to keep open house, and sell spirits night and day in the principal street of this town, right before the eyes of the police authorities ? True, the house she occupies has been a licensed one, but the former owner, to whom the publican's license was granted, has left this portion of her Majesty's dominions without wishing good-bye to his friends, and took the license with him. Besides, even if the license were in possession of the present occupier of the premises, I am quite sure that our Warden would not grant the transfer of same to the person in question. I am, Sir, yours obediently, A Citizen.
