THE WAKATIP HOSPITAL.
A public meeting was held on Friday the 15th inst, at Bracken's Hotel, in furtherance of the above object. J. N. Wood, Esq., having been called to the chair, stated that the object of the meeting was to elect a committee for purpose of collecting funds to build a hospital for the district, and to form also a committee of management. The Government had instructed him to say that they were prepared to subscribe two pounds for every one collected in the district. Mr. Moses proposed, and Mr. Bracken seconded—That a committee of seven be nominated to collect subscriptions, with power to add to their number, if necessary; a honorary treasurer and honorary secretary also to be elected, who shall be ex officio members of the committee. Carried unanimously.
Mr. Duncan was then elected to the office of treasurer, and Mr. William Bruce to that of secretary. The following gentlemen were then elected as a committee to collect subscriptions:— J. N. Wood, Esq., and Messrs. Moses, Bradshaw, Bracken, S. A. Wood, and Cassius.
It having been resolved, on the motion of Mr. Bradshaw, that a subscription list should be opened at the meeting, one was prepared and handed round, when the chairman announced that the sum of £4B 4s. had been collected, and £1 subscribed by Mr. David Lamb, a stranger in the district. A vote of thanks having been passed to the chairman, the meeting broke up.
