PROVINCIAL COUNCIL ELECTION.
To the Editor of the Lake Wakatip Mail. Sir—A meeting was held here last evening for the purpose of hearing the views of Mr. Manders, a candidate for the Provincial Council. He addressed the electors at some length, and was closely examined by a digger (Henry Chamberlain), but I am sorry to say that Mr. Manders substituted lengthy speeches for answers, which was very dissatisfactory. Mr. Chamberlain then moved —" That this meeting do not pledge itself to support Mr. Manders, until such time as it may see whether any other candidates appear in the field." It was then moved as an amendment—- " That Mr. Manders is a fit and proper candidate, &c." The amendment and resolution were put to the meeting, and the chairman declared the amendment carried. But I assure you Mr. Chamberlain's resolution was carried. The chairman was appealed to and asked to appoint a teller, and submit the resolution and amendment again to the meeting, which he declined to do. This was unfair you must admit; but I can tell Mr. Manders that he has no show on the Shotover—old stumporatois from Inglewood are out of date. Yours, &c., An Impaetial Digger. Arthur's Point, May 16.
