The British Government, 'notwithstanding French agitation on the subject, have signified their intention of adhering to their present policy with regard to Egypt, and have declined to leave that country to the disorder which the withdrawal of the British troops would entail. Hong Kong, November 1. The latest news from Tonquin reports that bodies of Chinese troops have attacked two French positions in Tonquin, and that desperate fighting took place. Sofia, October 31. The Sobrange had formally opened to-day. In the speech of the Regency, which was somewhat brief, proposals were made for the election of a Prince. November 1. The Bulgarian Government has been advised to yield completely to Bussian demands, thus avoiding Bussian occupation of Bulgaria, and to declare their inability to deal with the situation. The onus of the position will then rest with the Great Powers. The Grand Sobranje will be occupied for many days in weighing the legality of the elections. Calcutta, November 1. A report has deen received from Afghanistan that the Northern Ghilzai tribes have revolted against the authority of the Ameer of Cabul, and succeeded in holding the Afghan troops in check. It is also reported that the Ameer has been obliged to take the fields in order to quell the rebellion.
