TENDERS FOR LOW LEVEL TUNNEL WATER RACE.
[to the editor of the lyell times.] Sir, —I wish to draw the attention of the public to the way in which the tenders for the water race for air-blast in the Lyell Creek Extended were accepted and closed on Wednesday last. The advertisement calling same appeared in last Saturday's Lyell Times stating that they were to close on the following Wednesday, 3rd instant, at 10 o!clock p.m., but on lodging my tender at Mr J. Ryan's store oil that date at 2 o'clock p.m. I was informed that the tenders had closed at 10 a.m. On making enquiries I ascertained that the Lyell Times was not in error, consequently in my opinion it resembles a very clearly put up affair in the interest of certain parties concerned, but certainly not those of the Company. I know of at least two tenders lower than the one accepted, and which would have been lodged in time had the advertised hour been adhered to. —I am, &c., Fair Play. Lyell, November stli, 1886.
