Sydney, September 13. Shepherd Smith, general manager of the Bank of New South Wi?les,died to-day. Melbourne, September 15. In reply to a communication from the Governor of Victoria asking whether a vessel was available for despatch to New Hebrides for the purpose of protecting British interests in those islands, Admiral Tyron has stated that two men-of-war are already at New Hebrides, and he believes the state of affairs there has been exaggerated. Five hundred returned diggers have arrived at Port Darwin to-day from Kimberley goldfields. They report that many diggers still on the fields are in a state of distress.
