Major Wardill, the manager of tlie Australian team, telegraphs to the Melbourne Cricket Club that the team will return via San Francisco and New Zealand, where they will arrive in November and play a series of matches at the chief towns. September 4. Berry, Agent-General, telegraphs to Government that M. Freycinet, the French Premier, refuses to make any concession in regard ro the transportation of recidevistes. He states that the laws relating thereto must take their course. Berry further announces that Lord Lyons, British Ambassador at Paris, reports that Freycinet has expressed annoyance at the representations made to him by the British Government. Sir Graham adds that the Hon. Mr Stanhope, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has stated that he still has hopes of a satisfactory settlement 01 the New Hebrides question. Adelaide, September o.
