Lyell Times, SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 1886.

We have received a great many enquiries lately with respect to the proposed bridge across the Buller at Larson's Punt. It will bo remembered that two sites for this bridge were surveyed some time ago, and now that the tenders are being called for the bridge over Left-hand Branch the residents along the Bullor road, waggoners, and the travelling public generally feel naturally dissatisfied that this long promised work had ap parcntly been lost sight of. But we are pleased to be in a position to state that such is not the case, as Mr Eugene O'Conor, while in Wellington lately, according to promise, gave the matter every attention. We cannot do better than publish a letter received by Mr John Fennell from that gentleman yesterday, and as it deals with other local matters it will be interesting to the residents of this district. " Westport, April 21st, 1880. 41 Mr John Fennell, Lyell—- " Dkar Siu—l have been in com nmnication with Government frequently, urging that the Lyell bridge and other work! would be put in Land. When in Wellington I was informed that the plans Vrer*t in hand, and I hail a messaj,' o a fow days ago, when asking the cause of delay, the Minister informing mo that he would be able to give me definite information on the return of Mr Blackott, Engineer-in-Chief, who was then on the Coast. I now find he linn returned, and will renew my address to the Minister. " With regard to the extension of the Eight-mile road. I am waiting the completion of the pinna and specifications in order to have the work proceeded with by the County. •• I shall endeavour to arrange to have a meeting at Lyell, early next week, and to bring Mr Thompson up with me. He is now very busy in trying 10 get Borne works ready for Council at next meeting, in Ridings which have had very little attention hitherto.

" I am sorry to find by your letter that further expenditure will be required for the reservoir. As our financies are not very flourishing, indeed it is quite apparent that we will soon be n difficulties uules6 something turns up. M I will wire to you when I am able to its the day for the Council meeting. 41 Yours faithfully, ** Eugene (/Conor."
