Mr T'UDDLft, Lye 11.— The Abyssinian Expedition Wiia commenced in 18G8. and had its! origin in tlio detention of certa : n English captives bv Theodoras. Emperor of Abyssinia. An expedition under Sir Robert Napier, now Lord Napier of Magdalla, was dispatched to Ahvssinia to enforce their release, and the ramnnign temiinnted with the taking of Magdala, a strong fortress, the death of Theodoras, and the liberat:on of his prisoners.
