London, October 27. Lord George Hamilton, First Lord of the Admiralty, announces that it is intended during the next two years to construct nine ironclads, having a combined tonnage of 80,000 tons.
November 1. The death is announced, aged 74, of His Grace the Duke of Abercorn, K.G. Constantinople, October 27. Representations from Great Britain and France yesterday notified to the Sultan that the respective Governments agreed to take part in the projected conference on the Bulgarian question. The Turkish delegates have not, however, yet been appointed and the conference is consequently postponed until next week. October 29. King Milan, of Servia, has addressed a diplomatic note to the European Powers, in which he states he is anxious to uphold the integrity of the Treaty of Berlin, and that he has no intention of breaking the peace.
