Westport, Sept. 11. The Arbitration case between the Great Republic Company, and Anderson and Co., of Christ church, relative to a battery erection contract has been concluded, after lasting for a week. Nothing as to the result has as yet been made known. Wellington, Sept. 11.

The debate in the House, on Captain Russell's motion to reduce the Public Works expenditure by half a million, is still proceeding. This is rather a bitter pill for the East and West Coast Railway party, who are waxing exceeding wrath over it. Government do not seem inclined to treat the question as a ministerial one, but several ot the Opposition contend it is, practically, a party affair, and regard it in the light of a No Confidence vote.
